As President & CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) for the past sixteen years, and Chief Operating Officer the prior nine years, William D. Talbert, III, CDME has distinguished himself as a highly respected visitor industry and community leader.

Talbert’s twenty-five years of experience at the GMCVB includes major accomplishments such as assisting with the passage of the Travel Promotion Act of 2010, negotiating inter-local government funding agreements, and preparing four successful Super Bowl bids and three Pow Wow bids.

Under Talbert’s leadership, the GMCVB was awarded the prestigious accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP) in November 2007. DMAP is an international accreditation program developed by the Washington, DC based Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI). The GMCVB rigorously pursued the highly covered DMAP accreditation as part of its continued commitment to excellence.

In May 2013, Talbert was named to the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board which serves the U.S. Secretary of Commerce on matters relating to the travel and tourism industry in the United States.

Currently, Talbert is a member of the Chairman’s Circle of the U.S. Travel Association; Advisory Board member of Brand USA; and Chair Elect of the VISIT FLORIDA Board of Directors. In his role as Chair Elect of VISIT FLORIDA, he also serves on the Board's Executive Committee. Talbert’s professional affiliations have also included serving as Chair of the DMAI Board of Directors, Chair of the DMAI Foundation Board of Trustees, and Chair of the Florida Association of Destination Marketing Organizations (FADMO).

Talbert is a member of the President’s Council of Florida International University (FIU) and serves on the Dean’s Council of FIU’s School of Hospitality Management, Board of the World Trade Center Miami, Greater Miami & the Beaches Hotel Association (GMBHA), Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and is a Commissioner on the Miami-Dade Sports Commission.

He is a member of Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and Meeting Professionals International (MPI).

On January 19, 2015 Talbert was honored as a Role Model by Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson, Founder of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project, which is committed to guiding minority boys along a carefully chartered path to manhood and sending them to college.

In July 2015, Talbert was honored with the Chairman’s Award at the 2015 National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators & Developers (NABHOOD) Summit.

In January 2014, the City of Miami named Talbert its Global Citizen of the Year stating that he embodies the leadership and history of commitment to the vision of marketing Miami as a dynamic, world-class destination for business, vacation, meetings, conventions and signature events.

In May 2013, Talbert was honored with a Special Recognition Award by CAMACOL at the 34th Hemispheric Congress of Latin Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

In 2010, Talbert was honored by the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce with the prestigious Excellence in Tourism Award.

Talbert has also received Black Meetings & Tourism Magazine’s 2007 APEX Award for Distinguished Service, named one of the Twelve Good Men by Ronald McDonald House, won the coveted Chamber South’s Steven J. Cranman Public Service Award, and honored by the Academy of Travel and Tourism as the 2002 Tourism Professional of the Year”.

Talbert holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University and bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida. In 2006, he earned the Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) designation – the highest educational achievement in the destination marketing industry. He is married to Cindy McCall Talbert and has a married daughter, Aimee.
